Fire Island Lighthouse Illumination Tour
Join us for a Private Tour of the inner workings of the historic Fire Island Lighthouse. Learn how the Lightkeepers maintained the beacon responsible for maritime safety from the use of whale oil in the 1850s, through the development of various fuels, up to present-day technology. On our private top-to-bottom tour, we will follow the Lighthouse Keeper on his rounds from the auxiliary generator and his workshop in the basement to the beacon in the lantern room of the lighthouse tower.

Special Notes:
This event requires about a ¾ mile walk on a boardwalk to get from the parking lot to the Lighthouse. Comfortable shoes are definitely recommended.

DUE TO THE SIZE OF THE SPACES IN THE LIGHTHOUSE, THIS EVENT WILL BE LIMITED TO THE FIRST 25 MEMBERS WHO SIGN UP. PLEASE NO FRIENDS. WE WILL TRY TO ACCOMMODATE FRIENDS IF SPACE IS AVAILABLE AFTER CLUB MEMBERS HAVE HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO SIGN UP.

Schedule:
7:00 – 7:15 AM – Meet at the Mayfair Shopping center
7:15 – 7:45 AM – Group drive to parking lot #5 at Robert Moses
7:45 – 8:30 AM – All meet at the east end of parking lot #5 for coffee & bagels.
8:30 – 9:00 AM – Walk to Lighthouse and start the tour
